Threading Open Waters

My upcoming concert is entitled open waters which I will be performing at the Primrose Potter Salon at the Melbourne Recital Centre on 4 May 2022.  Alongside fellow prize winners from the class of 2021, Jye Todorov (bassoon) and Amanda Pang (piano), we explore the journey from the navigable channels of ANAM to the open waters of life as a professional musician through the lens of Anne Cawrse, Benjamin Britten, André Jolivet, Jeff Scott and Francis Poulenc.

We Change the World

We Change the World is a reminder that we all have the power to make change. This performance features a selection of 21st century compositions by New Zealand composers that celebrate the world we live in but also challenge us to face some of the dark realities of our society and consider what needs to change. Each composer is reacting in their own way to the world we live in, as well as its past and its future. As musicians we are charged with bringing those notes to life and providing a bridge between the composer and the audience.

From my Bubble in Aotearoa New Zealand

I write this from my home in Auckland, New Zealand. Following the announcement that ANAM would close due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I made the decision to be with my family. Our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern recently described New Zealand as having “a very large moat”. To be a small country far away from the rest of the world seems to be a blessing. From my bubble in New Zealand, I have had a chance to reflect on what has shaped me as a New Zealand musician.
